October 22nd Networking Event
On October 22nd, V-BRYGE and Fudan University International Student Communication Association (FISCA) co-organized an online social networking event. More than forty undergraduate and graduate students in China and abroad participated in the event, representing top global universities including Fudan University, Jinan University, Hong Kong University, London School of Economics and Political Science, Sciences Po, Johns Hopkins University, University of Oxford, and Tufts University. To our pleasant surprise, we had a diversity of majors represented among the audience, ranging from humanities to social sciences, and even natural sciences well represented among the participants.
Two outstanding representatives of V-BRYGE global networks Michael Chen (2022 Schwarzman Scholar) and Yolanda Yang (2022 Yenching Scholar), joined our Co-Founders Yanni Li and Ann-Alice Tichá to share their experiences of cross-national studying and working. They discussed their takeaways and insights for studying global affairs in international institutions based in different countries of the world. Our speakers answered a few questions widely shared by the audience during the Q&A session, including preparing for studying abroad, self-studying a foreign language, and finding specific research interests in social science. During the second half of the event, participants and our guest speakers joined breakout rooms for free discussions and social networking.
As the Co-Founders of V-BRYGE, Ann-Alice and Yanni also shared their original ideas and goals of establishing V-BRYGE as a platform to promote the cultural and intellectual exchange between youth scholars in and out of China. The event was moderated by Ella Xiao, the Co-President of V-BRYGE 2023.
Through this networking session, we successfully increased the coverage of V-BRYGE by establishing connections with campuses in Mainland China and promoting our conference through the deepening friendship we created among students across the ocean. This experience enabled us to further our understanding of cross-cultural communication.
